Cell phone usage is a widespread epidemic in the U.S.—especially texting and driving. In fact, it’s the number one cause of distracted driving. According to Distraction.gov, 3,328 people were killed due to distracted driving-related accidents in 2012. Countless more were injured.
Using a cell phone behind the wheel can lead to a car accident for several reasons, including:
- You can’t properly hold the steering wheel with two hands while texting;
- You can’t watch the road as you should when dialing or texting; and
- Your mind is not focused on driving safely if you are having a heated or exciting conversation.
To curb this growing threat to our nation’s roadways, more and more states are enforcing cell phone and texting bans all across the country.
