The guardrails on Tennessee’s highways have become the focus of a 663 million dollar lawsuit. Trinity Industries, Inc. reportedly did not tell federal officials when changes to their guardrail design led to a number of fatalities across the state.
The Tennessee Department of Safety records show at least 26 people have died from accidents involving guardrails; however, their data doesn’t specifically state if these were ET-Plus guardrails.
Whistle-blower Joshua Harman, a former guardrail engineer, first reported the problem, saying, “there’s tens of thousands of (ET-Plus guardrails) in the state of Tennessee,” and to “ignore that problem – it’s unacceptable.”
Trinity Industries Inc. intends to appeal the decision.
