Guardian Ad Litem is a well-established program for helping kids affected by abuse. However, judges presiding over high-conflict divorce cases often struggle to get unbiased information on the welfare of any kids caught in these situations.
This dilemma has led to some family law courts across the U.S. to consider a program similar to Guardian Ad Litem.
Although these programs are just starting, they are already seeing results.
In Florida for example, family law attorneys in Sarasota have teamed up with their local courts to provide this valuable insight to the judges. Volunteers in the program have powers similar to Guardian Ad Litem volunteers – specifically, “…the authority to investigate, report and make recommendations to judges concerning the child’s wellbeing.”
